ABOUT US

NZ Trucks is a heavy diesel vehicle servicing and repair centre with many years experience in the trucking industry.

In additional to our mechanical workshop, we have on site transport engineering, COF testing, and a 24/7/365 call out service.

We are proud of our service offering of a one-stop-shop for truck owners. Our mission has always been that our customers drive in with a problem, and they drive away with a solution.

OUR HISTORY

NZ Trucks can trace its origins all the way back to International Harvester days when it was situated on Blenheim Road in Christchurch.

In 2017 it relocated to a purpose-built site on Brydone Road in Hornby South.

In 2019, the business was purchased by well-known transport industry identities Ross Graham, John Mason, and Sheldon Close.

Today, the business employs nearly 60 staff and prides itself on its reputation of service , availability and reliability.

John Mason

John Mason commenced his career in the trucking industry with an apprenticeship at the International Harvester branch in Christchurch in 1984. International Harvester Christchurch became Southern International Ltd, and John continued his service there as a heavy diesel mechanic working on International trucks and for a time, on Dressta and International construction equipment and farm machinery. Changes in the industry meant Iveco became the dominant brand for Southern International Ltd, and for a time John was the technical expert for Iveco New Zealand. When Southern International Ltd was purchased by the Stevenson Group in 2007, John assumed the role of Service Manager. In the ensuing years, satellite workshops were established at two sites in the Christchurch region, and one in Greymouth. The business was acquired by AB Equipment Ltd in 2014, and John continued in his role as Service Manager in the growing business. Work through the Pacific Fuel Haul workshop had brought about a business relationship with Ross Graham, so when the opportunity to form a partnership with Ross Graham and Sheldon Close in the purchase of Intertruck South arose, John saw the potential and jumped at the chance. Within the next year, they acquired the workshop business of New Zealand Trucks which continues to grow and provide service to a New Zealand-wide customer base. John is first and foremost a family man, and outside work when time allows, John follows rugby, enjoys fishing exploits, and he and Sonya socialise with their wide network of friends.

Ross Graham

Ross Graham began his longstanding career in the industry by serving his apprenticeship at Johnson Motors in Stratford, working mainly on GM cars and trucks.  Soon after his apprenticeship was completed, he moved to Stratford Transport Ltd, working on their fleet of Austin, Bedford, Dodge & Commer trucks.  Stratford Transport Ltd was bought out by the TNL Freighting Group, which also owned Hookers Ltd in New Plymouth.  A shift to a new workshop in New Plymouth a year or two after this was the start of his forty-two-year association with the Hookers Group.

Hookers New Plymouth was bought out privately in 1989, and grew over the next 30 plus years to become the one of the  largest privately owned transport companies in the country.

Ross set up in his own business in 1986 to look after the fleet maintenance for the Hooker Pacific  Group. Ross Graham Motors and Ross Graham Transport Maintenance Ltd continued to provide maintenance services for this fleet for the next 34 years.

Ross brought his business interests south in 2019 when, in conjunction with John Mason and Sheldon Close, they purchased the business known as Intertruck South and renamed it MC Transport Repairs Ltd. Within a year, the opportunity arose to purchase the workshop business of New Zealand Trucks. The business moved to the current site in June 2020, and trades as NZ Trucks.

Sheldon Close

Sheldon Close began working in the workshop at Southern International Ltd,  completing his pre-trade qualification in 2003. No-one knew at this time that his career path was well and truly set, and he would go on to become a part owner and a Director of the business some seventeen years later!  Sheldon began his apprenticeship as a heavy diesel mechanic in 2004, gained skills and experience across a wide range of vehicles in the following years which culminated in his appointment as Service Manager. Sheldon continues in this pivotal role in today’s business model and is normally the helpful and willing voice at the end of the phone for customers when they call. Outside of work, Sheldon and Emma have a young family and enjoy sharing their love of four-wheel driving adventures with them whenever they can.
